Baptists in Massachusetts have joined together primarily for the purpose of doing mission more effectively. That purpose continues to be important. Today, however, the concept of associating as American Baptists is being tested by the diversity within our region, by divisive issues and by a significant decline in denominational identity. TABCOM will be conducting a program to address these challenges and to build a stronger family. We are calling it “All for ONE”.

WHEN WE GET TOGETHER…
Key leaders from your church will meet with a team of two visitors from TABCOM for two hours at your church.
The first part of the time will be used for sharing about the passions and needs of your church and learning about the resources available from your regional family.
Then, together we will identify distinctives which make us unique as American Baptists and explore the benefits and responsibilities of participating in the regional family.
When all the visits are completed, learnings will be used to define who we are as a regional family and how we can best serve each other.
A report of findings will be sent to each participating church.
In a nutshell, this program will mean that every church will be contacted for a visit. Each visit will hopefully continue or establish two-way communication: discovering the needs and celebrating the passions of local churches, and communicating the value of regional participation. It has the potential to reshape our region and alter the way we do “business” together.

Over the summer resources were developed and promotion has begun. In the fall, visitors were recruited and trained. Also this fall, approximately 10 churches participated in a pilot program. Now, the general church visitation will take place.

So no matter how you feel about TABCOM right now, or whatever may have happened in the past, let’s sit down and talk! The result may be the discovery of more common ground than we thought existed leading to a more effective witness and mission for Jesus Christ!
